It really spoiled our final night in NYC. After about 20 minutes we could see that they were stopping everyone leaving for a photo!! ( there was no other exit) When we eventually reached the top of the line ( after 25 minutes!!) We politely declined the photo op but was literally shouted at and told you CANNOT leave without a photo!!! What? Were we prisoners? had to agree to the photo but just crept past the photographer to make our escape!!! We finally got down to ground level to be handed a voucher for the gift shop which was to the left, we needed to go to the right to get back to our hotel 5 minutes away but were stopped and made to turn left and shouted at that we must walk past the gift shop!!!! When we eventually reached street level we were unsure of our location eventually finding our hotel after 15 minutes. We thought it was the line for the elevator. We joined an extremely long queue and couldn't see the end. The views were amazing and as we are a "tall" family we're able to get some great pics above the crowds, then came the worst bit. The proposed work by Tishman Speyer also includes updates to the mezzanine and ground floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. We had timed tickets for Top of the Rock even though 100's of others did too so the wait to go up was long but bareable as it was just coming up to sunset time. Visitors to this level will also enjoy a new mosaic tiled floor inspired by historic Rockefeller Center iconography. According to Tishman Speyer’s plans, the structure will take on a lens shape with fluted detail and the circular observation platform will be enclosed with a glass balustrade.Īs well as the new Skylift, the 70th floor will feature the globe-like Rooftop Beacon with orbiting ‘Light Rings’ and rotating panels made of LEDs and sculpted glass. The rooftop Skylift will extend 9 meters (30 feet) into the air to give visitors panoramic views of New York City. ‘Lunch atop a Skyscraper’ © Rockefeller Group Inc. Lunch atop a Skyscraper (images courtesy of Tishman Speyer) Visitors will be strapped onto a movable beam then lifted about 2.7 meters (9 feet) into the air and rotated around to recreate the scene. ![]() The recently approved plans also include a ‘Lunch atop a Skyscraper’ experience on the 69th floor roof terrace, which pays homage to the famous photograph of the same name showing construction workers sitting on a steel beam having lunch. ![]() Proposed by Tishman Speyer, the project will see a ‘Skylift’ viewing platform and ‘Rooftop Beacon’ added to the 70th floor of the Manhattan landmark.
